Please note: All Rhino Scrum Machines now come with the revolutionary new Adjustable Binding Arm position, replacing the older ‘Elephant Ear’ handles - as standard.

This is a brand-new binding system designed with modern scrummaging in mind.

Developed for over a year in partnership with Bristol Bears scrum guru Mark Irish, this new feature allows props to tailor the handle positions to their arm length, creating the most realistic and safe scrum training experience on the market.

The Rhino Powahouse Scrum Machine is the latest addition to our extensive range and the official scrum training equipment of all teams at the Rugby World Cup in Japan. Designed with an innovative head/ram/spring system, this machine allows scrum units to maintain pressure after engagement. Built at Rhino's Somerset engineering base, the Powahouse is designed with a focus on player safety, with a width that ensures a safe pushing position for all age groups.

The Powahouse Scrum Machine has our unique adjustable width head plates, enabling the machine to suit different sized players.

Tested by Wales forwards’ coach Robin McBryde, the Powahouse is designed to meet the needs of elite modern scrummaging, on both grass and artificial turf. The adjustable scrum heads and new bind bar positions for tighthead and loosehead props ensure a realistic engagement, while the visual advantage for coaches allows for detailed analysis of players' technique and form.

The Powahouse's centre ram easily drops out to accommodate lighter forward packs or focus on front rowers. The four wheels, engaged with winders, make the machine highly mobile and easy to move between training sessions. The Powahouse is also flat-packed to 1m3, making it easy to store and transport.

The Powahouse has been developed with the help of top New Zealand coaches, including one of the world's leading scrum coaches Mike Cron, to address the newest engagement and binding protocols in the scrum. Artificial pitch friendly, this scrum machine is available in both eight-man and one-man variants, making it suitable for teams of all sizes.

Dimentions:

2868 (l) x 1774 (w) x 927mm (h), weighing in at 300 kgs.

Robin McBryde:

“The Powahouse really tested the boys. The spring systems in the heads means it’s a realistic engagement so the front row aren't just hitting a solid object without thinking, and it really took some of the front rowers by surprise. The way the scrum is now refereed means it is no longer just about the hit, it’s about being in the strongest position possible following the engagement, and that’s another reason why the Powahouse is so valuable in training, it trains you to do that. In the modern game you have to be pretty close to your strongest pushing position on your set up as you’ve only got six inches of space to get it right, so working on the Powahouse brought a good focus to that stage of the process for us. When you hit the Powahouse you’ve got to work to maintain your shape, by activating your core and promoting your chest to keep your back in a good neutral pushing position – when you hit a normal fixed sled, you can sometimes get lazy, but this machine makes you work hard to maintain your profile as front row forwards. The adjustable heads also means that whatever the size or age groups that are working on the machine, their pushing position will never be Powahouse because of the width of the machine, making it much safer to work on. The Powahouse is going to play a big role in preparing our forwards for the toughest of all tests in Japan later this year.”
