RHINO ONCE MORE SPONSORS GRASS ROOTS RUGBY FESTIVAL IN POLAND

PNIRF-2014---posterFor the fourth consecutive year Rhino is sponsoring Central and Eastern Europe’s leading social rugby festival in Poland on Saturday August 16th. The Piotrowice Nyskie International Rugby Festival astonished rugby commentators when it was nominated alongside the English Premiership Final and the eventual winner the Las Vegas Sevens in the Rugby Event of the Year category at the 2012 Rugby Expo Awards at Twickenham. The nomination was widely seen as recognition from the judges of the importance of developing the game at grass roots level in emerging rugby nations. Hosts Jim Parton, expatriate English rugby fanatic, and his Polish wife Anna will once more open the doors of their 12th century Schloss in Silesia on the Polish – Czech border to welcome teams from all over Europe to contest men’s 15s and 7s and women’s 7s on the two rugby pitches lovingly cared for by Jim in the grounds of the estate. Rhino are joined as sponsors by Shepherd Neame who are supplying their award winning Spitfire Kentish Ale to the tournament and by RugbyPolska.pl , the leading Polish rugby website. All enquiries from interested participants – both teams and spectators – to bigjimparton@aol.com

RHINO XMAS CARD OF THE YEAR WINNER ANNOUNCED!

2014-02-01-xmascardv2The competition for the best Christmas card received by Rhino was this year won by Jim and Anna Parton, the hosts of the now legendary Piotrowice Nyskie International Rugby Festival which takes place in mid August in Silesia in Poland. In addition to featuring a striking winter photograph of their magnificent Schloss on the border of Poland and the Czech Republic, the grounds of which feature the two rugby pitches on which they stage their annual event, the card also shows the Parton family sporting Rhino branded tournament T shirts and rugby balls - well done Jim, Anna, Jozefina, Henryka, Nela, Herbert and Fryd! Just for good measure the photo also features Jim holding the turkey which presumably he later despatched to provide their Christmas dinner. No pussyfooting about at M&S for the Partons.... The Piotrowice Nyskie International Rugby Festival, which features Men’s and Women’s 7s and Men’s 15s, has grown in just three years into one of Central Europe’s leading social rugby events and was remarkably shortlisted at the 2012 Rugby Expo Awards at Twickenham alongside the English Premiership Final and eventual winner the Las Vegas Sevens in the global Rugby Event of the Year category. As Rhino is now sponsor of the LV Sevens which take place shortly on January 24th – 26th , we are proud to be associated with two of these three events. The PNIRF takes place this year on August 16th – check out Facebook for further details.

This week's Heineken Cup - a review!

ERC-TB-Logo-Heineken It was a fantastic weekend for Irish fans, with all four Irish teams claiming important wins. Leinster showed off some old flare, with Brian O'Driscoll coming to the fore and proving that he's still got plenty of magic left. Northampton Saints were left struggling to gain a foothold and went down 7-40 to the visitors. Connacht managed to edge an impressive 14-16 away victory over Toulouse, leaving their supporters overjoyed. Meanwhile, Munster and Ulster both shone at home, both collecting bonus point wins. Munster grabbed a 36-8 win over Perpignan while Benetton Treviso were hit with a 48-0 defeat as Ulster proved that Ravenhill is a formidable fortress. Elsewhere, Pool 1 saw Castres overtake Northampton in the table due to their 15-9 win over Ospreys. The Welsh side have again failed to make an impact in the tournament this year and remain rooted to the bottom of the rankings. Pool 2 remains tight as Toulon leap to the top thanks to a 9-14 away win over Exeter Chiefs. Cardiff Blue's 29-20 victory over Glasgow Warriors moves them into second place, just a point adrift of Toulon. Glasgow have sunk all the way to the bottom of table, in a Heineken Cup that is yet to hot up for the usually dangerous Scots. You can't get closer than Toulouse and Saracens in Pool 3, with them both vying for the top spot with 10 points apiece. Toulouse are now under pressure after the dramatic loss of the weekend and Saracens had an easy 10-39 win over Zebre to keep the heat on. Pool 4 sees French clubs at the either end of the rankings, with Clermont rising to the top after thrashing Scarlets 11-32. Meanwhile, Racing bring up the rear after taking a 8-32 defeat from Harlequins, with Quins moving up to second thanks to their solid performance. Everything remains the same in Pool 5, with Ulster reigning and Treviso failing to gain any points. Leicester Tigers stay in second and in touching distance of the Irish club after taking down Montpellier 41-32 in a frenetic match that was probably the most entertaining of the round. Pool 6 sees Munster move up to the top, followed closely by Gloucester who have had a good start to the competition, despite their poor showing in the Aviva Premiership. Gloucester fought to a 12-23 victory over Edinburgh to steal the second place slot. Meanwhile, Perpignan are loitering at the bottom and have a lot of work to do if they are to break away from fourth position.

BREAKDOWN KING RICHIE GRAY BACK WITH RHINO AFTER SPRINGBOK ADVENTURE

Richie Gray, the inventor of the Rhino Collision King range of products is now back in his role as International Skills Coach with Rhino after an extended secondment as specialist breakdown coach to the Springboks for The Rugby Championship and their Autumn internationals in Europe. Now generally recognised as the world's leading authority on the breakdown, Galashiels based Gray also represents Rhino north of the border in addition to his activities as an innovative developer of equipment for rugby and other sports. It was during the Springboks visit to Edinburgh for their comprehensive 28-0 victory over Scotland on November 17th that Gray's role with the Springboks attracted most media attention, particularly as Scotland have recently cast their net far and wide for their senior coaches. The Springbok breakdown statistics have improved markedly during Richie's spell with them and all at Rhino congratulate him on this achievement, and vindication of his ideas and methodology at the highest levels of the game. In the meantime, Richie's next major project is a Rhino Collision King range specifically developed for rugby league, due for launch in February next year.
