Last year Rhino supported the RAF Spitfires 7s team when they staged a Queens Diamond Jubilee Sevens tournament at Iffley Road Oxford and a subsequent rugby dinner the aim of which was to raise funds to send a Rhino Premiersled scrum machine and other contact equipment to the Jungle Crows rugby club in Kolkata.
The Jungle Crows and their associated charity Khelo Rugby do a great job in recruiting street kids in Kolkata and helping to turn their lives around via the disciplines, camaraderie and generosity of rugby. Their greatest success story to date is Sailen Tudu, current Indian national fly half who has spent the last couple of years studying at Hartpury College in Gloucesteshire. Sailen took time out last year to attend two Rhino sponsored events in one day – the Cheddar Valley and Winscombe junior tournaments at which we displayed the 6 Nations and Triple Crown Trophies courtesy of the WRU, with kids being asked to donate kit for transportation to Kolkata with the scrum machine in return for having a photo taken with the Trophies.
